50 Bible Verses for Comfort When Facing Loss

Grief can often feel overwhelming, but God’s Word provides peace, hope, and reassurance. When facing loss, turning to Scripture can help soothe your heart and remind you of God’s presence. Below is a collection of 50 Bible verses to bring comfort and healing in your journey through grief. A good idea is to write your favorite scriptures out, and then read them daily, even doing so aloud. This helps make them a part of your thinking, and can help transform the way you react to your grief.
        God’s Promises of Comfort
  1. Matthew 5:4 – “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

  2. Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit.”

  3. Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.”

  4. John 14:1 – “Let not your hearts be troubled; you believe in God; believe also in me.”

  5. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 – “The God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are  comforted by God.”

    Hope for Eternal Life

  1. John 11:25-26 – “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he dies, shall live.”

  2. Revelation 21:4 – “And God will wipe every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

  3. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 – “But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.”

    Trusting God’s Plan

    Renewed Hope and Joy

Isaiah 61:1-3 – “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the  captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

  2. Nehemiah 8:10 – “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
